Lindsey Rutka founded Van Horst General Contractors in 1985 with a goal of becoming one of the region’s most demanded and respected commercial contractors. Lindsey’s Construction career began at the age of 18 when he started a residential and commercial maintenance company. The company was so successful with the commercial maintenance, he decided to form a new company and call it Van Horst. The company’s name came from his middle name VanRapphorst. In the beginning Lindsey was involved with running and working alongside crews all over the State of Connecticut and managing the day-to-day operation of his construction company.
Since forming the limited liability company in 1997, he has been responsible for overall construction and business operations of the company. Still to this day Lindsey can be seen on all the projects his company takes on. You might even still find him operating a piece of equipment because he loves the industry so much. It is his passion.
He has performed construction services in excess of 4,000 projects; encompassing, business offices, restaurant facilities, churches, retail spaces, physician offices and various public works projects. He has managed construction services in excess of 100 million dollars and 20 million square feet. He holds many industry licenses and certifications. He has also passed the hardest contractors test known to man — “The Florida State Contractors Board.” Currently Lindsey resides in Connecticut. His hobbies include, auto racing, the outdoors and he is finishing his studies to become a pilot, his other passion. Lindsey also donates time to special charities that involve children with special needs.
David Saling - Vice-President
David Saling is a minority principal of Van Horst General Contractors, LLC, and is its’ Chief Financial Officer and one of its managing members. He joined Van Horst in 1995. David is also responsible for the overall business development of the company and oversees the day-to-day operations of all business related activity.
David has many years of experience in the construction industry, which includes budgeting, bidding, supervision and project management. Besides Van Horst, David is a shared owner in many commercial and residential properties which he manages and maintains. Before joining Van Horst, David exercised his management skills within the insurance industry with a nationally recognized company. David played a fundamental role in several multi-million dollar projects.
David grew up in New Britain, CT and worked in the hospitality industry while attending New Britain High School and CCSU. He received degrees in Business and Project Management.
